Forward: The Direction to Purpose

The school bell has rung, class is now in session.

A couple of weeks ago, Pastor Michael Fulton delivered some words of encouragement on a live that he titled Purpose is Forward Driven.

I want to share some insights that inspired me.

As we travel on the road called Life, we often wonder exactly, “What is my purpose?” Pastor Fulton spoke of how he pondered about this very question one day while driving home from work on the highway. He thought about how his purpose at that time was to get home, and how those around him probably had a purpose but different destination. The interesting thing to note is that they all had to move forward to get to their purpose, no matter what or where it was. The pace they were going did not matter, as long as they stayed focused until they got there. (More on Pastor Fulton here)

Distraction

Do not get distracted by other people. Distraction will place you in neutral space. You will become so busy worrying about the people and situations around you, that you will end up going absolutely nowhere at all. Guard your inner circle. If those who are closest to you are (directly or indirectly) not in support of your purpose, it may be time to separate yourself from them. Otherwise, they will have you going around in circles.

Purpose is not about taking a walk backwards, but is about moving forward! The wrong mindset in or around you, will not allow forward movement to take place. So please, go ahead and give this mindset its walking papers out of your life.

Remove False Systems

There are some systems set up in your life that you need to remove in order to function correctly and move towards purpose. Just because you grew up, or were taught a certain way, does not mean that it was right. This “way” could be the reason you are remaining stagnant and cannot change. Examine yourself and the systems you live by. If the system has you in a negative headspace, and more focused on others instead of improving yourself, it may be time for a change.

Grow Towards Purpose

Pastor Fulton said, “Ignore feeling behind or that you are too late to activate.” It is about your mindset and your faith in what God has said concerning you. You may think you are too old or that time has passed you by, but He already knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb, and established purpose and destiny within you.

Even in the midst of disappointments, you just need to have the audacity to believe you will overcome the obstacles standing in your way.

Remember the past victories – Everything you have gone through, has made you who you are today.

High Calling and Low Calling

A High Calling is about not being ordinary or mediocre. It is about rising above during tough times, and not allowing those times to distract or keep you from moving towards your purpose. It is also about walking in integrity, staying focused and separating yourself from foolishness.

A Low Calling is the exact opposite. It is about doing whatever you want, whenever you want, not being selective of those in your inner circle, and having a fixed mindset.

We will all continue to drive on the Road of Life, heading towards a destination, but whether we reach and operate fully in our purpose will ultimately depend on our actions – so drive safely!

The school bell has rung, class dismissed.
